Overexcitabilities

What are Overexcitabilities?

Overexcitabilities are inborn intensities indicating a heightened ability to respond to stimuli. (Lind, 2001)

Found to a greater degree in creative and gifted individuals - expressed as increased sensitivity, awareness and intensity.

Dabrowski (1972) identified 5 areas of intensity -

  • Psychomotor
  • Sensual
  • Intellectual
  • Imaginational
  • Emotional

Individuals who possess any of the excitabilities experience the world in unique ways.
